They make a tasty snack either eaten raw ( if the water source is clean) or blanched briefly in boiling water.
The gelatinous substance found between the mature leaves can be applied to treat burns and of course the mature leaves can be used to make dolls.

I think the pith, soaked in a suitable animal, fat can be used for rushlights too
Your blog is very hard to leave a comment on sometimes Kevin - I can hardly be bothered. It doesn't recognise my password etc and drives me mad - good job I am persistant - you must have had some real problems in the past. Nowadays I let anyone post and just delete them if I don't like it or its junk !
